The process, made simple
Planning a wedding already comes with plenty of moving parts, so I like to keep the photography side of things simple.
Here’s how the process usually unfolds, from first enquiry to receiving your photographs.
Relaxed. Natural. Real moments.
Your wedding day isn’t a production – it’s a gathering of the people you love most, a day full of laughter, hugs, nerves, joy, and all the little moments that happen naturally along the way. The photography should reflect that.
From the very beginning, my aim is to keep this part of the process simple and stress-free. Clear communication, no unnecessary complications, and a calm presence you can rely on throughout.
Choosing a photographer isn’t just about liking the photos – it’s about feeling comfortable with the person behind the camera. After all, you’re inviting someone into one of the most important days of your life. That trust matters, and I take it seriously.
During the planning stages I’m always happy to guide when needed. Whether that’s helping shape a timeline so the day flows naturally, or offering advice based on years of photographing weddings, the goal is always the same – to make things feel relaxed and easy.
When the wedding day arrives, the focus is simply on letting the day unfold. I’m not there to turn your wedding into a photoshoot or interrupt real moments. Most of the time I’m quietly observing and capturing what’s happening as it naturally unfolds.
The result is a set of photographs that feel genuine because the day itself felt genuine – images that capture not just how everything looked, but how it felt to be there.
And long after the music fades and the flowers are gone, those photographs remain – honest reminders of a day that was lived, celebrated, and shared with the people who matter most.

01.
Say hello
Start by getting in touch to check my availability and tell me a little about your plans. If your date is free, we’ll arrange a relaxed Zoom call to chat through your wedding in more detail.
It’s a chance for us to get to know each other, talk about your plans, and answer any questions you might have.
Choosing a photographer is a personal decision – you want someone you feel comfortable having around all day. This conversation simply helps us make sure we’re a good fit.
02.
Let’s chat about your plans
Once we’ve said hello and arranged a Zoom call, this is where we get to know each other properly.
I’ll ask about your plans, what you’re most excited about, and the kind of atmosphere you’re hoping for on the day. It helps me understand what matters most to you and how I can capture it in a way that feels natural and true to the day.
It’s also the perfect time to ask me anything. Whether you’re curious about how I work, how the day usually flows, or you’d like a bit of guidance around timings, I’m always happy to help.
These calls are relaxed and informal – more like a chat than a consultation.

03.
Secure your date
If we both feel like we’re a good fit (and I hope we are), the next step is to make things official.
I’ll send over a simple digital contract and booking invoice. Once the booking fee is paid and the agreement is signed, your wedding date is secured in my diary.
From that point on, you can relax knowing your photography is taken care of. I’ll confirm everything with you, and you’ll receive a welcome guide with helpful information about what happens next – from planning the day through to receiving your gallery after the wedding.
04.
Here if you need me!
After booking, I don’t simply disappear until your wedding day. I’m always just an email away if you have questions or want a bit of advice.
Whether it’s help with timings, ideas for portrait locations, or just running something past me as your plans come together, I’m always happy to help.
Think of me as part of your wedding team. I’ve photographed a lot of weddings over the years, so if something comes up and you’re not quite sure what to do, there’s a good chance I’ll be able to point you in the right direction.
The goal is simple: by the time your wedding day arrives, everything feels relaxed and you know exactly what to expect.

05.
Planning the day
Around four weeks before the wedding, I’ll send you a short questionnaire to gather the key details – locations, timings, contact numbers and the general flow of the day.
Once that’s done, we’ll arrange a final Zoom call to run through everything together.
It’s a chance to confirm the timeline, make sure we haven’t missed anything, and answer any last questions before the big day.
By the time we finish that call, everything is clear and you can head into your wedding week feeling relaxed and ready to enjoy it.
06.
The wedding day
On the day itself, I blend into the background as the day unfolds – friendly, relaxed and always nearby when needed. I’ll chat with your guests, help everyone feel comfortable, and most of the time you’ll forget the camera is even there. That’s when the best moments happen.
When a little guidance helps – especially during portraits – I’ll step in gently so nothing ever feels awkward or staged.
The aim is always the same: to capture the story of your day honestly, through photographs that feel natural, relaxed and full of life.

07.
Your gallery arrives!
Around four to six weeks after your wedding, you’ll receive your online gallery filled with all the moments from the day – from the quiet glances and emotional hugs to the slightly chaotic dance floor later on.
It’s a chance to relive the day properly, and often to spot moments you didn’t even realise were happening at the time.
All of your images are delivered in high resolution, ready to download and share with family and friends. If you’d like something more tangible, you’ll also have the option to order beautiful prints or a bespoke album.
This is where the story of your day comes together – ready to be revisited whenever you want to return to it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about working with me
Why should I hire you to be my wedding photographer?
Choosing your wedding photographer is as much about connection as it is about craft. You deserve someone who not only creates beautiful, emotive imagery—but someone you genuinely enjoy having by your side on the most meaningful day of your life. My portfolio is here to show you the quality of my work. The heartfelt words from past couples will show you what it’s like to work together. With every wedding, I bring a calm presence, thoughtful attention, and a seamless experience from beginning to end.
How long will you attend our wedding for? Will you disappear after the ceremony?
All of my wedding photography collections include full-day coverage—because some of the most unforgettable moments happen long after the cake has been cut. From the early morning preparations to the final dance, I’ll be there to document it all. I don’t clock-watch, and I never leave just as the magic begins. If the dance floor is alive and the energy’s electric, I’ll be right there capturing every moment with heart and precision.
My Uncle Bob has a nice shiny new camera. Why shouldn’t I hire him and save some money?
No disrespect to your Uncle Bob, but can he:
- Take a sharp photograph in low light or when it’s pouring down?
- Can he organise large (sometimes tipsy…!) groups of people?
- Does he have total control of his camera so he’s ready to capture that special moment as and when it happens, not fifteen seconds later when he’s found the correct button and the moment has passed forever?
- How will Uncle Bob fare after he’s had three pints of Fosters and a sneaky glass of Lambrini..?
- Does Uncle Bob have insurance in case something goes wrong (heaven forbid) on the day? Does he have a backup camera in case his equipment / batteries / memory cards fail (again, heaven forbid, but he needs to be prepared for all eventualities).
- Also, has he photographed a wedding from start to finish before?
Are there any hidden costs you’re not telling me about?
Transparency is everything. What you see is exactly what you get—no surprises, no hidden extras. I believe in clear, honest communication from the outset, and I’m always happy to walk you through my pricing and collections in more detail. Let’s meet for a relaxed chat (and perhaps a slice of cake) to explore what feels right for you.
How long will I have to wait after the wedding before I see my photographs?
A few days after your wedding, you’ll receive a beautiful sneak peek—a small handful of highlights to relive those first moments while the rest of your gallery is being curated. The full collection is typically delivered within 4–6 weeks (up to 6–8 during peak season), carefully edited with the same care I brought to your wedding day. If you’ve chosen a bespoke album, that process is a little more intricate and may take a few additional weeks, but the end result is a timeless heirloom you’ll treasure forever.
Will we get to meet before the wedding?
Absolutely—we’ll have plenty of time to connect before your big day. From our initial phone or Zoom consultation, I’ll be available to answer your questions, talk through ideas, and ensure we’re the right fit. A few months before the wedding, we’ll meet in person (over coffee and cake, naturally) to discuss the finer details, timelines, and anything you’d like guidance on. I don’t just want to be your photographer—I want to feel like a trusted part of your team.
I hate posing for pictures! Will you make me pose?
In short—absolutely not. My style is quietly observant, allowing the day to flow naturally while I capture the genuine moments that matter most. I won’t be pulling you away for endless posed photos or interrupting the rhythm of your celebration. Most couples tell me they barely noticed I was there—and that’s exactly how it should be.
That said, if the light is just right or your venue offers something breathtaking, I may gently suggest stepping aside for a few relaxed portraits. These moments never feel staged or time-consuming—we’ll create something timeless together in no more than ten minutes, I promise.
What style of photography do you offer?
My approach is rooted in a natural, candid, and documentary style. I capture the day as it unfolds—with elegance, discretion, and a keen eye for real moments. There’s no need for awkward posing or staged smiles. Instead, I blend into the background, allowing you and your loved ones to enjoy every moment uninterrupted, while I quietly preserve the laughter, the emotion, and the in-between magic that make your wedding truly yours.
What happens if it rains on the day of the wedding?
When you hire a professional wedding photographer (such as myself), you’re hiring someone who’s well versed in capturing amazing photos in all types of conditions. So whether I’m photographing in blazing sunshine or torrential rain, rest assured your photos will be fantastic (rain actually offers some ace creative opportunities, so it’s definitely not all bad when the heavens open!)
I also visit the venue well in advance of your wedding to look at suitable locations for photographs, and this includes inside the venue as well as out. So if the weather isn’t so great you can rest assured that we’ll capture some gorgeous memories together.
I’m sold! How can I hire you?
Woah, easy tiger! Either give me a call on 07552 808289 (leave a message if there’s no answer, I’m usually out and about somewhere), email me at dan[at]howhighthemoon.uk, or fill out my contact form.
Can’t wait to hear from you!
